Homeschooling 101, a FREE Intro to Homeschooling Workshop, presented by the Homeschool Association of California and hosted by Jamie Heston, former Homeschool Association of California Board Member, will be taking place online via Zoom.

Your donation or membership in HSC to help fund ongoing education and homeschooler support is welcome! (https://www.hsc.org/become-a-member)

Choosing to homeschool your children is a major life decision. We will walk you through California's legal requirements as well as help inspire you with all of the resources, information, and connection to other homeschoolers you will need to get started. Jamie has 14 years of experience homeschooling, and 11 years of experience coaching families with children in the Bay Area. Whether you have young children or are considering pulling your older child out of a brick and mortar school, this workshop will give you the information you need to move confidently forward.

HSC is pleased to welcome neurodiverse homeschooling/ unschooling families from across California to our January virtual meetup!

The HSC neurodiversity meetup centers the voices of neurodivergent people, accepting their gifts AND challenges without trying to heal or cure them. We offer a listening ear and support while also acknowledging that neurodivergent brains are differently wired from birth and will always struggle in environments that cater only for neurotypical brains. Accepting online spaces like this are extremely hard to come by, in a world where ABA and other abusive therapies are still the first line “treatments” being offered to parents after a diagnosis of autism for example, aiming to mask and suppress autistic behaviors rather than change society to be more inclusive. Schools are rarely set up to support their sensory, emotional and other needs, and as a result there is a higher proportion of homeschoolers and unschoolers who are neurodivergent.

This is a welcoming and non-judgmental space that also supports neurotypical parents/carers.
Please read through the HSC Mission Statement (available at www.hsc.org/hsc-mission-statement) and check whether you are aligned with the inclusive values of HSC before attending.
